Meet in the parking area on the west side of the lake ( google will take you to the main entrance off of Krauskopf Rd). We will spend a good hour at this location before continuing a couple miles further to a small parking area by the North County Trail off of Red Pine Dr NW. Carpooling from Long Lake may be needed to accommodate us all at NCTrails smaller lot. This park has a wide variety of habitats and is a known nesting area for Red-headed Woodpeckers.
Essentials: the trails in many areas of the North County Trail can be muddy. Bug spray is usually needed, binoculars and the Merlin app are great tools, shoes with good traction will help with slippery footing and long pants will guard against poison ivy..
Birders of all skill levels are welcome. Bathrooms are available at Long Lake Park and if this is a family outing-there is a playground next to the parking area. Water and a snack will help tide you until lunch since we will be birding for at least 3-4 hours.
