The North Country National Scenic Trail spans 4,800 miles across eight states, including both peninsulas of Michigan, rendering it the longest National Scenic Trail in the country. While it’s administered on a federal level by the National Park Service, efforts to build, maintain, protect, and promote it are predominantly managed by the North Country Trail Association, a nonprofit headquartered in Lowell, Michigan, with a staff of 16 and a volunteer base of hundreds.
