North Cannon Trail

  • North Cannon Trail 5600 Sunfish Lake Avenue Northeast Rockford, MI, 49341 United States (map)

Led By: Becky Kuhn

Bird the paved trails and boardwalks. This is part of the North Country National Scenic Trail. It passes through mature woods, shrubby fields and a marsh/lake. This supports a wide variety of resident and migrating birds, the morning could easily produce a list of 60 birds.

Essentials: Meet at 5600 Sunfish Lake Ave, the parking lot by the Cannonsburg Cemetery. We will take a coffee break in the small village of Cannonsburg about 9:30 and then bird northern Townsend Park and the Southern Cannon Trail. This morning will involve a lot of walking, so feel free to join or exit as you wish, comfortable walking shoes are advisable. Water should be included in your pack. Bug spray may be needed. Binoculars and the Merlin app are great tools. Birders of all skill levels are welcome. Bathrooms are available in Cannonsburg and in Townsend Park.

Safety Hazards: Driving in a caravan can be hazardous. Get directions from the leader for travel to the next stop. Please exercise caution on the roads at all times, and watch the car ahead of you when driving in a caravan. Watch for bicycles on both stretches of the Cannon Trail. Please have a passenger handle all radio or phone communications while in a car.
